What is the role of microcrystalline cellulose

Microcrystalline cellulose is a pure depolymerization product of cellulose. Made from natural cellulose, it is an odorless and tasteless crystalline powder. Products are available in the pharmaceutical industry pharmaceutical excipient and tablet disintegrating agent; in the food industry can be used as the basic material of functional foods and dietary fiber is important, is a kind of ideal health food additives; in the coating industry using its thixotropy and thickening can be used as a water-based paint thickener and emulsifier in the cosmetics; it sets the filler, thickening and emulsifying function in a body, has good emulsifying ability of oily substances; in the wet manufacturing artificial leather as thickening and filler used in production, the artificial leather surface smooth, uniform thickness. Thus it can be seen that the use of microcrystalline cellulose is very wide, and the domestic demand for this product will be increasing.

Superfine edible cellulose

Microcrystalline cellulose, referred to as MCC, is natural cellulose hydrolyzed in acidic medium, and its molecular weight is reduced to a certain extent, and it becomes a granular powder product with a size of about 10 m. It is mainly used as a drug delivery agent in the pharmaceutical industry, which has the following advantages over starch or starch derivatives as follows:

(1) easy to disintegrate, that is, after the drug enters the stomach, it is easy to disintegrate and be absorbed for the human body.

(2) it is not easy to be mouldy, this is because the cellulose is the beta type glucose configuration and the starch is an alpha configuration. Amylase does not attack cellulose.

(3) cellulose is not easily absorbed by the human body and is not easy to react to, so it is safer. The disadvantage is that the price is high.

Another product is colloidal microcrystalline cellulose (MCC glue), with MCC powder as raw materials in aqueous solution with a certain concentration, and become a special device by colloidal gel. The MCC colloid has the following properties:

(1) it is a thixotropic colloid, which appears to have high concentration and large viscosity, but in fact, it is easy to flow as long as external force is applied, spoon and tail are not spoiled.

(2) the viscosity of the colloid can reach 3000 ~ 5000mPa s when its concentration is 3%.

(3) the colloid has good cold and thermal stability, that is, the viscosity loss of the freezing and heating cycle is not significant.

(4) although the cellulose is composed of glucose, but the body cannot digest beta glucose, its calorific value is zero, so the microcrystalline cellulose in the human body only with food moving together not absorbed by the body, it can help digestion and reduce or prevent diseases of digestive system to.

Pharmaceutical industry: drug delivery agent (powder), capsule (powder, direct use)

Food industry: low calorie ice cream (instead of part of milk fat), salad dressing (instead of part of milk fat), fiber rich bread (powder)

Cosmetics: basic ingredients (moisturizing, skin care)
